Rail fares Will Increase by 10% Due To Inflation

Rail fares in United Kingdom will increase by 10% in next year. This is only due to the inflation in market. The retail prices index ( RPI) which is used to set rail prices is only 4.8% last year. It is hoped to increase to 5.8% but not to the required level.

All Unions hope that government will soon take necessary actions and will hep the rail service providers. Transport secretary Philip Hammond has inflamed the row by refusing to confirm that the current RPI plus 1% rule will be implemented as usual, and there are fears that tickets could be allowed to rise by as much as 3% above inflation.

There is huge demand of trains in UK and France and  Eurostar is the leader for trains between London to Paris. You can travel under sea by Eurostar and reach Paris in 2 hours 15 minutes. Few trains have started increasing fares and Southeastern Trains, though, is already allowed to raise prices by 3% more than RPI to pay for improvements such as the new Javelin train. Its passengers, who travel between London and Kent or East Sussex, can already expect fares to go up by 7.8% in 2011.
